Becoming a professional means much more than simply getting a job. A real professional understands his work as contributing to his development as a person; he sees his work as an opportunity to develop his abilities and to put them to good use at the service of society.
Throughout the summer, outside speakers are invited to Elmbrook to address questions in the various professions. The goal is to enhance understanding, by the students, of transformations in culture and society.

In addition, residents can attend evening and weekend classes on the nature of work and its relation to the development of the individual and the larger society, through examination of such texts as John Paul II's encyclical On Human Work and Josef Pieper's Leisure the Basis of Culture.

In the evenings, participants spend time sharing their experiences. There are occasional weekend trips, to New York or Vermont , for instance. Participants are invited as well to take part in the spiritual activities that Elmbrook regularly offers its visitors, including daily Mass.
