The advent of cheap computing has the potential to make technological innovation much more accessible: an aspiring inventor can use a $5 Raspberry Pi to control a home-built drone or a smart doorbell, integrating audio, video and sensor data to make the device respond to its environment. The MathWorks Inc. is developing tools for efficiently programming these embedded computers, and Greg is one of the leaders of the effort to drive this project forward and spread the word to makers and educators. He will be sharing some lessons he’s learned from his career path so far, and pointing out the big opportunities and challenges confronting this field right now.
Born in Venezuela, Greg Drayer Andrade earned his doctorate in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology, with a minor in Aerospace Engineering. While at Georgia Tech, Greg joined the Sam Nunn Security Program of the School of International Affairs, in which he received intensive training in research approaches and policy formulation methods to address national and international security issues. He is member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).
