Is Nature more Mind or Machine?

October 5, 2019, 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Is Nature more Mind or Machine?

In your four years of college, you have the opportunity to explore many different areas of inquiry, from history and literature to science and mathematics. But integrating all this knowledge into a coherent view of the world is not easy. Many people end up either giving up on this ideal, or rigidly clinging to the perspective of their own field of expertise.

Every year, Elmbrook hosts an intensive half-day seminar aimed at helping you develop a more rigorous synthesis. These seminars are led by renowned professors of philosophy, who are experts in communicating the hard-won insights of the world’s greatest thinkers.

The topic of this year’s seminar is the philosophy of nature. Our understanding of nature will influence our view of free will, morality, the existence of God, and the meaning of our lives.

We are pleased to welcome again Dr. Edward Feser, who specializes in philosophy of nature, science, and religion, to help us address these questions. He will explain the two basic competing frameworks for philosophy of nature, and help us to evaluate them.

Edward Feser
